Specially written for lower secondary students, these 10 stories are a vivid retelling of a selection of Shakespeare's most critically acclaimed plays, representing a cross-section of genres ranging from the light-hearted romances of Twelfth Night, As You Like It and A Midsummer Night's Dream, through the more sombre romances of Romeo and Juliet, The Merchant of Venice and The Winter's Tale to the dark tragedies of great, flawed heroes in Macbeth, Julius Caesar, Hamlet and King Lear. Narrated with close attention to detail, these lively stories capture the spirit of the original plays. An interesting variety of activities would enable students to develop a fuller appreciation of the relevance of drama and of Shakespeare in their lives.
