Submissions

Authors are invited to submit their manuscripts by email to genref@sg.marshallcavendish.com. A receipt of acknowledgement will be sent for every submission and we endeavour to assess all submissions within two months, afterwhich we will respond with our decision.

Manuscripts are to be typed and page-numbered, and accompanied with a sheet containing the following information:

  • Date and title of submission
  • Synopsis, an outline of the entire work and the estimated final length/word count/number of recipes
  • Genre and description of intended readership (target market) with points on competing titles and how your book differs from others in the market
  • Author’s name and contact details; websites, blogs, and social media links, if any
  • Author bio, listing publication history, writing awards, relevant qualifications and experience
  • Additional sales and marketing channels, if any
  • Stage of manuscript completion

For fiction and narrative/creative non-fiction titles, including inspirational memoirs, travel writing and crime, please send the first 10,000 words of text or the full manuscript and the table of contents.

For non-fiction titles, including business, politics, biographies, history and parenting, please send a table of contents and brief chapter summaries, along with the opening three chapters or the full manuscript. Please also include samples of visual material (photos, illustrations, maps, charts) where applicable.

For children and young adult titles, including picture books, books for emerging readers and middle school books, please send the complete text and sample illustrations.

For culinary titles, including all instructional cooking manuals and recipe books, please send the full contents list, including the introduction, basics, how-tos and final line-up, along with five recipe samples complete with photographs.
